What I commonly see

Children aren't simply small adults.

When a child changes, stops sleeping, refuses foods they used to love, develops tics, becomes anxious, struggles at school, or seems like a different kid overnight you usually know before anyone else does. Many families come to me after being told to wait and see, that it's behavioral, that they’ll grow out of it.

I think those concerns deserve to be taken seriously. So I start with what you noticed and when things changed, then look for the medical, environmental, and developmental factors that might explain the rest.

My Approach

Children deserve the same time and attention as adults, and in my experience they rarely get it.

I start with the timeline — pregnancy, birth, early development, illnesses, antibiotics, exposures, and when things changed. In children, that "when" is often the most important clue on the chart, and it's usually the parent who noticed it first.

From there I look at the whole child: the gut, the immune system, sleep, nutrition, and how they connect to what you're seeing in behavior and development. These systems talk to each other constantly in a growing body. Then we work gradually — children's systems are sensitive, and slow beats fast almost every time.
